YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (May 9, 2008) - Sophomore Tyler Bucholz won the 100m and 200m and sophomore Isaiah Adams set a school record in winning the 400m on Friday to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team to a fifth-straight Horizon League Outdoor Championship at Youngstown State.

The Panthers scored 183 points in completing a fifth-straight indoor/outdoor title sweep. The host Penguins were 14 points back in second place with 169, while UIC was a distance third with 74. Butler took fourth at the meet with 64 points, just ahead of Detroit in fifth with 61. Loyola edged Valparaiso for sixth place 50-49 and Wright State rounded out the field with one point.

"This meet was a real gut-wrencher for us," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "With the field events first, (the title) seemed out of reach and we would need the running events to win it for us. But, we had a solid all around meet and won it with a strong second day instead of having the meet in hand."

Bucholz was named the meet's Most Outstanding Track Performer, while Corfeld was named the league coach of the year for the 34th time in his storied career.

Bucholz won four league titles on Friday, winning the 100m in 10.86, the 200m in 21.69 and with the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The 200m saw UWM take the top three places, with Adams collecting all-league second-team honors as runner-up with a time of 21.89 and senior Lynn Koepke taking third in 22.19. Koepke also scored in the 100m with a third-place finish and time of 11.09, edging junior Adam Schleis in fourth (11.10).

Adams, meanwhile, broke Bucholz's school record in the 400m with a winning time of 47.73. Bucholz ran his previous school standard of 47.93 earlier this season. Freshman Cory Yttre also scored in the event in fifth with a time of 49.46.

Bucholz, Adams, Yttre and junior Patrick Casey made up the champion 4x400m relay, combining on a time of 3:13.70. Adams, Bucholz, Koepke and Schleis formed the first-place 4x100m relay, tying the second-best time in school history of 40.81.

Schleis also won his third-straight league 110m hurdle championship, breaking the school and league record with a time of 14.40. He had shared the school record of 14.45. Senior Justin Bohler was second in the event with a time of 14.78. Sophomore Josh Zill also scored in the event in fifth place in 15.18. In the other hurdles event, the 400m, Casey was third in 54.25 and Bohler fifth in 54.96.

Senior Darren Cole led four Panther scorers in the triple jump, winning his sixth career triple jump title. He leapt a personal-best 50-0 3/4, becoming the second atjlete in school history to clear 50 feet. Zill was second with a personal-best jump of 48-1 3/4. Sophomore Quinn Mongoven was fourth at 45-2 1/4 and Schleis took sixth with a jump of 43-4 1/4.

Mongoven remained perfect at the league championships in the high jump, winning his fourth with a final height of 6-8 3/4. Cole tied fifth in the event by clearing 6-2 3/4.

The Panthers also had all-league second team members with second-place showings in the shot put and pole vault. Senior Larry Ehrhorn took second in the shot put with a throw of 50-7 1/2. Junior Sean Jaehnig also took second in the pole vault with a final height of 15-7, tying him for second in school history.
